Alun Armstrong has to be the finest actor ever to come from this area, so
its a bit rude to refer to his beer commercial. Its like harping on about
Alec Guiness "the star of Star Wars". Anyway here goes.
Barmaid: "How was the beer festival"?
Alun: "" grimace
Barmaid: "How were the lasses"?
Alun: "Ah give us a bag o crisps".
The actress who played the barmaid was an absolute stunner with a real local
accent, the advert itself I think was for McEwans Best Scotch -"The one
you've got to come back for" and it concerned two bemused Geordies going to
the Munich Beer Festival. The message, they the advertisers wanted to get
across was that the two characters were glad to be back home to proper beer
and proper women.
All very well but Scotch as I remember it in its many variations was
absolutely foul and you had to come home to the north east for it because
they didn't sell it any place else.
