How exactly do you pronounce 'Chare' as in Pudding Chare, Broad Chare
etc.? Is it 'chair' or is it'char'?

Which is the broad Chare? I recall a news item that a bonded warehouse
fire had caused some bother on the broad chare a few weeks ago but
couldn't work out which one it was

The following link takes you to the appropriate spot via the rather
excellent Map24 - the only shame is that you have to type Newcastle
Upon Tyne. Simply typing in Newcastle takes you to somewhere in
Ireland. Heathens!

Thanks Dominic, that's pretty cool, haven't seen that one before. I'm
still not exactly sure which road it is though. I like my map to have
big buildings with "The keep" written on them so I know where I am :O)

Thanks Dave, but for some reason the top one won't work properly. I did
get it down a bit but it looked like the map from Dominic. The other
photo one, I'm afraid that if my eyes are so crap I can't find the real
thing I wouldn't be able to spot it on that titchy pic! :O)

Hi Paul

Broad Chare runs up from the Quayside, alongside the Crown Court
buildings, past Trinity House and comes out at the start of the Tyne
Bridge.

Some snaps at:

By the way, Broad Chare is so know as it was one of the few Chare's
which was wide enough to get a cart through.

Now as to a fire, nothing sticks in my memory, unless it was yonks
ago!

I wonder if you are thinking about the "mysterious fire" at the former
Bonded Warehouse on Hanover Street (other end of the Quayside to Broad
Chare)? - see photographs at:

Thanks Steve, looks like I had actually found it, just as you point out
lower down, for whatever reason the report must have been wrong, as I
would say it was the one you posted below, the one on Hanover street,
which was on fire.

Interestingly, your pictures of the building have that same problem mine
have. The pictures with the big 40 on always have loads of glare, I
think due to the really dark colour of the brick.
Thanks anyway mate, I was wondering if I was cracking up, but had found
the place I was looking for without knowing it for definite :O)
