You might want to add uk.local.geordie; I don't know if it nominally
includes cultural as well as geographical matters, but it's certainly
moribund. (I see no Northumberland or Tyne & Wear in your list, so
'geordie would probably count in with the above list.) I'd be sorry to
see it go, but haven't seen a post in it for months )-:.

I agree; I'd really like to see ULG remain, but can't honestly say I've
seen many posts here in the last year or two; I very much fear regular
contributors have either died, or deserted us for things with more
flashing lights.

(I'm not in Geordieland - I'm actually in Kent! - but love it, visit it
about twice a year, and have roots [my Grandma was "the dog/cat woman,
Bedlington" - a letter so addressed would reach her], and still have
friends and relations there.)

Are you not a listener? (Come to uk.media.radio.archers, even if you're
_not_ a listener!) I can't say I've specifically noticed her in the last
few days, but I've definitely heard her not that long ago (discussing
Ben's birthday car, for example). Just checked with the Radio Times -
yes, she's still in the cast list for this week.

Whey man, Aa still mind when Grace lost her life trying to save Midnight
from the fire in the stables! I've been a fairly consistent listener
since then, but on occasions when the storylines really have got a far
too contrived, I've sometimes drifted away for a few months. The last
time was when the continuing, ad nauseam discussions about Brexit on LBC
Radio usually took precedence when it came round to 7pm - and sadly I
missed the moment when Joe Grundy died (well, he had to, didn't he).
However, with last week's explosion at Grey Gables, and the skulduggery
going on to dodge the blame, my interest has again been re-kindled.

Gill (and her "Oh NO!") used a regular item on Radio 4's 'Dead Ringers'
(when it was worth listening to).

Yes, I use to like Dead Ringers at one time, but it palled - over-use of
the (excellent though it was) Tom Baker imitation, and their fake 'phone
calls just became either cruel (if real) or a one-joke endless
repetition (if not).

Maybe I'm getting old, but I find that a lot of the once-unmissable BBC
radio comedy programmes have lost a lot of their shine (even 'I'm Sorry
I Haven't A Clue').

Indeed. No-one could deliver a double entendre as apparently innocently
as he could. As well as the zombie-movie effect: if you saw him, he was
a very frail old man - but when presenting ISIHAC, he fizzed - just like
Nicolas Parsons, another who I will miss.

Though, to my admitted surprise, I think Jack Dee does an excellent job;
it's a little different, but IMO as good. He's made it his own.

To bring vaguely back onto Geordie: there's an excellent prog. about the
Geordie language, the origin of its phrases and words, on something
local: my friend Frank has played it for me occasionally when I'm
visiting NCL. I can't remember what station - might be hospital radio.
